[edit] History
EMAP was the only applicant for the Tyne & Wear licence by the closing date of 10 August 1999. It was awarded the licence on 4 October 1999, having been advertised on 21 April 1999.
The multiplex was initially known as Emap Tyne & Wear but was renamed due to Bauer Media Group purchasing Emap's radio operations.
MXR North East transmits regional stations from the same two transmitters.
[edit] Transmitter sites
The platform broadcasts via the following transmitters:[2]
| Transmitter | kW | Area |
|---|---|---|
| Burnhope | 4.8 | Main area |
| Fenham | 0.2 | Gateshead & Newcastle |
Later possible transmitters would be at Alnwick (Shilbottle) and Chatton once local adoption of digital radios reached 31%. This never happened.
