[edit] Constituency profile
The seat takes in the innermost third of the London Borough of Ealing – including the Acton area and the centre of Ealing itself.
Acton and Ealing have both become bases for young families, thanks to the good transport connections and low crime levels – though the very edge of the seat goes along the perimeter fencing of the prison at Wormwood Scrubs.
Notionally, the seat would have been a very close three-way marginal in 2005 between the Conservative Party (32.8%), Labour Party (32.6%) and the Liberal Democrats (29.7%).[2] Alternative estimates suggest that the seat would have had a tiny Labour majority in 2005.
In the 2010 general election, Angie Bray won the seat with a majority of 3,716, representing a notional swing from Labour to the Conservatives of 5%.
[edit] Boundaries
The constituency occupies the eastern portion of the London Borough of Ealing. It is made up of eight electoral wards from the borough:
- Acton Central, Ealing Broadway, Ealing Common, East Acton, Hanger Hill, South Acton, Chiswick Southfield, Walpole
[edit] Boundary review
Following its review of parliamentary representation in North London, the Boundary Commission for England created the new seat of Ealing Central and Acton, a successor seat for Ealing, Acton and Shepherd's Bush, which was held by the Labour Party. Ealing Central and Acton also includes areas taken from adjoining constituencies.
The Commission recommended that East Acton ward, South Acton ward, Acton Central ward, Southfield ward, and parts of Ealing Broadway ward, Ealing Common ward and Hanger Hill ward be transferred from the former constituency of Ealing, Acton and Shepherd's Bush. Walpole ward, and parts of Ealing Common ward and Ealing Broadway ward were transferred from Ealing Southall. Parts of Ealing Broadway ward and Hanger Hill ward were transferred from Ealing North.
