East Farmingdale is a hamlet and a census-designated place (CDP) in Suffolk County, New York, United States. The population of the CDP was 5,400 at the 2000 census. Located in the Town of Babylon, the residents have a Farmingdale postal address.

East Farmingdale is located at 40°43′30″N 73°25′34″W / 40.725°N 73.42611°W / 40.725; -73.42611 (40.725061, -73.426220)[1].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 5.4 square miles (14 km2), of which, 5.4 square miles (14 km2) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.10 km2) of it (0.56%) is water.

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 5,400 people, 1,693 households, and 1,286 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 1,003.8 per square mile (387.5/km²). There were 1,723 housing units at an average density of 320.3/sq mi (123.7/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 73.33% White, 14.83% African American, 0.15% Native American, 4.09% Asian, 0.09% Pacific Islander, 4.52% from other races, and 2.98% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 12.72% of the population.

There were 1,693 households out of which 37.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.8% were married couples living together, 12.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 24.0% were non-families. 19.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.10 and the average family size was 3.52.

In the CDP the population was spread out with 26.0% under the age of 18, 9.4% from 18 to 24, 34.6% from 25 to 44, 19.4% from 45 to 64, and 10.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 102.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 100.6 males.

The median income for a household was $68,125, and the median income for a family was $71,726. Males had a median income of $51,332 versus $32,188 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $25,466. About 4.6% of families and 7.0% of the population were below the poverty line, including 7.1% of those under age 18 and 6.8% of those age 65 or over.
