The Edit application was a simple text editor for the early Apple Macintosh. It was included with the basic system software to demonstrate the use of the Macintosh user interface.
Edit later evolved into TeachText, which eventually become SimpleText. Both were primarily used to display Read Me documents. With the arrival of Mac OS X, these applications were replaced by TextEdit.
