Edwards Number Eight was a rock/alternative nightclub in Birmingham, UK. It was located between New Street Station and The Mailbox.

[edit] Background

Over the years the club has hosted many famous bands such as Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins,[1] and Rage Against the Machine.[citation needed]

It was destroyed by a fire in the early hours of November 12, 2006, whilst the club was open. The building was evacuated and there were no casualties, with only one member of staff being treated for smoke inhalation.[2] The building had recently received a new fire certificate.

There have been various fund-raising projects including T-shirt sales, requests for donations and a sponsored zombie walk through Birmingham town centre.[citation needed]

Following the fire a few temporary nights were arranged in a nearby pub in (and called) Gosta Green, with an alternative longer-term residency then being established in The Newt pub. Edwards current home is on Gough Street [2].

A local newspaper ran a news item claiming that the club is to re-open in its old venue following extensive re-building work, however this has not been confirmed by the club's management.[3]
