Edwyn Burnaby (29 September 1798 – 18 July 1867) was an English landowner, of Baggrave Hall, Leicestershire,[1] a Justice of the Peace, Deputy Lieutenant, and High Sheriff of Leicestershire in 1864. He also succeeded his father in the Court post of Gentleman of the Privy chamber.[1][2]
Edwyn was the eldest son of Edwyn Andrew Burnaby Sr., (d. 1825) (whom he succeeded on 1 October 1825), and his wife Mary, daughter & heiress of the Reverend William Browne and wife Mary Adcock. He was educated at Christ Church, Oxford,[1] and served as a captain in the Prince of Wales's Dragoon Guards[2] and the Leicestershire Yeomanry.
On 29 August 1829, he married Anne Caroline Salisbury, daughter of Thomas Salisbury, by Frances, daughter of Francis Webb.[3]
They had several children, including:
- Edwyn Sherard Burnaby (1830–1883), general and Member of Parliament[1]
- Caroline Louisa Burnaby (1832–1918), by whom Burnaby became great great grandfather of Queen Elizabeth II[4]
- Cecilia Florence Burnaby (d. 1869), married George Onslow Newton.[5]
- Gertrude Laura Burnaby (d. 1865), married Ernest Vaughan, 4th Earl of Lisburne[6]
