Koura is one of the 36 districts of Lebanon, particularly popular for its olive tree cultivation. A total of 52 villages make up the Koura area. Koura's capital and largest city is Amioun, with about 10,000 inhabitants as of 2010. The current head of the municipalities in Koura is Karim Elias Boukarim, born in Darchmezzine.
The olive plains of Koura are estimated to be the largest olive plains in the world. Deddeh is described as "heaven on earth" due to its rich plains of olive trees.
Kouranian people were living for centuries from this kind of agriculture.
The importance of Kouranian olive trees is that they offer an excellent quality of olive oil, extracted through the cold manner.
