Eliashim Antivirus, later known as eSafe protect was developed by EliaShim Ltd., and distributed by eSafe Technologies Inc., based in Seattle, WA.
Eliashim and its companies were bought by Aladdin Knowledge Systems Ltd. in December 1998.
[edit] The program
EliaShim anti-virus - ViruSafe - designed and programmed by Gabi Schwartz felt very different from other anti-virus products at the time and stood out in its look and feel from the others; something other windows anti-virus producers have been doing ever since to make their anti-virus products more appealing but did not put much time in up to that time.
Strangely, at the time, many DOS versions of antivirus products did have great user interfaces designed.
EliaShim ViruSafe seemed to be the trigger for a lot of "wanna-be" antivirus software to be released, although later versions which were released under the name eSafe Protect did perform great and even got certified; the product has evolved into a relatively good scanner which could surely compete with many others.
EliaShim was acquired by Aladdin Knowledge Systems in December 1998. eSafe Protect (the consumer desktop version) was sold by Aladdin until it was discontinued in 2002.
Since then the eSafe brand was evolved and it is now a gateway-based, full featured content security product which is still sold by Aladdin Knowledge Systems.
