Elizabeth South railway station is a railway station on the Gawler railway line on the border of the two northern Adelaide suburbs of Elizabeth South and Edinburgh. It is located 24.0 km by railway from the Adelaide Railway Station and has an island platform between the two railway tracks. Pedestrians cross the tracks at level since the underpass was closed due to concerns about safety and vandalism.
The station opened in the 1940s and once had a shelter and ticket office identical of that to Woodlands Park, but this was replaced in the late 1970s or early 1980s. On its western side, the station is adjacent to the Defence Science & Technology Organisation, and there is a walking track to the station for employees of DSTO.[1]
Between September 2011 and April 2012, at the same time as the Gawler railway line was being upgraded in preparation for electrification, the station was demolished and rebuilt. This work is expected to be complete when the Gawler railway line re-opens in early April 2012.[2]
