[edit] History
Elmer's glue was invented in 1942 by Ashworth Stull, a Georgia Tech chemistry graduate. He sold the company to Borden in the mid-1950s.[1]
While Elmer's Glue-All uses a bull as a mascot, it does not in fact contain any animal products. The glue is based on an emulsion of polyvinyl acetate, derived from petrochemical sources.[2] However, previous glues produced by Borden, such as the 1932 Casco Glue (Borden's first non-food product) were based on casein, a protein found in milk.[3]
[edit] Trivia
- Elmer's glue made a cameo in the film The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie when the cyclops made a shell. Another scene in the movie involved a lobster squirting the Elmer's glue onto the cyclops.
- Elmer's is mentioned in several early episodes of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia when Charlie and Mac try to get high by inhaling the non toxic fumes.
