Ernesto Sánchez La Cruz (born 1883) was a Venezuelan explorer who in 1910 became the first non-indigenous person to see the Angel Falls. However he did not publish his finding (he did inform the Venezuelan government), and so his discovery is not widely known. The Falls were not known to the outside world until the American aviator Jimmie Angel flew over them on 18 November 1933. Sir Walter Raleigh is sometimes said to have discovered Angel Falls, but these claims are not considered accurate.
