[edit] History
DIGITALEUROPE was formed in 1999 as EICTA, the European Information & Communications Technology Industry Association by the consolidation of the two former European federations of the information and telecommunications industries, ECTEL and EUROBIT.
Reflecting the movement of the marketplace and the rapid increase of co-operation and fusion found therein, DIGITALEUROPE next expanded the scope of its representation to include the consumer electronics industry. In 2001, the association merged its activities with EACEM - the European Association of Consumer Electronics Manufacturers. The new joint association changed its name to the European Information, Communications and Consumer Electronics Technology Industry Association, but kept its original acronymic name: EICTA.
In March 2009 EICTA was rebranded DIGITALEUROPE to better reflect the positioning for the digital technology industry and its slogan ‘Building Digital Europe’.
