Heatherwood operates on a seven-period English block schedule. Sixth and seventh graders have the same teacher for their reading, writing, and history classes. Eighth graders have the same teacher for only two classes, reading and writing. Other required subject classes are math, science, and fitness. Students may also choose between band or a art/unified arts/technology rotation.

Athletic activities include football, boys and girls basketball, volleyball and wrestling. Cross-country and track and field are also included. The school is also where the game of pitton originated.

The school offers a variety of clubs and extra-curricular activities for students, including After School Study Club, ASB, Art Club, Early Bird Tutoring, two FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Robotics teams, HONOR Club, The Hawk’s Eye View literary magazine, Boeing Science Club, Soccer Club, and Yearbook Club. There is an activity bus provided to students who take part in these activities that leaves at 4:00 on Tuesdays and Thursdays.[4]

Each year, Heatherwood holds a food drive, collecting food for The Salvation Army or Northwest Harvest.

[edit] FIRST LEGO League robotics

In 2009, with the coordination of a very dedicated parent volunteer and a math teacher, the school started a FIRST Lego League(FLL) Robotics team to compete in the FIRST FLL competition. The school has two teams every year because of the popularity of the club, “Hawkbots 1” and “Hawkbots 2” Here are the teams’ successes over their existence:
