Félix Sánchez (born in August 30, 1977) —nicknamed Super Felix, the Invincible and the Dictator— is a track and field athlete from New York City, United States. Sánchez's event is the 400 meter hurdles, in which he won the first ever Olympic gold medal for the Dominican Republic in August 28, 2004 during the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece.[1] Although Sánchez was born in the United States, his parents were born in the Dominican Republic, and he has competed for that country since 1999. He graduated from University City High School in San Diego, California.
In 1999, he was a Pac-10 champion (400 m indoor hurdles) and All-American relay champion (1600 m) at the University of Southern California[2], where he majored in psychology. Between 2001 and 2004 he won 43 races in a row at 400 m hurdles. He won a share of the Golden League million dollar-jackpot in 2002 after winning all 7 races.[3]
At the 2003 Pan American Games, Sánchez won the Dominican Republic's first gold medal at the competition and also broke the Pan American Games record in the 400 m hurdles.[4][5]
