Fight, Raiders, Fight
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Fight, Raiders, Fight is the fight song of the Texas Tech Red Raiders. It was written for the Matadors, the original name of teams representing the school (known at the time as Texas Technological College). In 1936,Tech band members Carroll McMath and James Nevins updated it to reflect the teams' new name, Red Raiders.
[edit] Alternate version controversy
An unofficial version of the fight song has become popular with students. Texas Tech officials are concerned that some are changing the words in the second to last line of the song to include profanity. This is one of several things that prompted the Raider Power Campaign which seeks to increase sportsmanship among fans.[1] Following the Raider Power Campaign, the Student Government Association along with the Center for Campus Life introduced a campaign featuring Anchorman character Ron Burgundy and the phrase "Stay Classy Texas Tech".[2]
[edit] Official Lyrics
Fight, Raiders, Fight! Fight, Raiders, Fight!
Fight for the school we love so dearly.
You'll hit 'em high, you'll hit 'em low.
You'll push the ball across the goal,
Tech, Fight! Fight!
We'll praise your name, boost you to fame.
Fight for the Scarlet and Black.
You will hit 'em, you will wreck 'em.
Hit 'em, Wreck 'em, Texas Tech!
And the Victory Bells will ring out.
