Português: O Convento da Ordem de Cristo e o Castelo Templário, em Tomar, formam um conjunto monumental único no seu género. O Castelo foi fundado em 1160 por Dom Gualdim Pais, Mestre provincial da Ordem do Templo em Portugal, e dentro das suas muralhas viveram as primeiras gentes de Tomar. O coração da fortaleza, a Alcáçova, com a torre de menagem, foi construída a Oriente; o lugar místico, a Igreja octogonal Templária, foi construída a Ocidente. Com o extermínio da Ordem pelas perseguições de Filipe, o Belo, Rei de França, os Templários encontraram, em Portugal, a continuidade da sua sagrada missão de Cavalaria.
English: The Convent of the Order of Christ and the Templar Castle in Tomar form a unique monumental ensemble in their kind. The Castle was founded in 1160 by Dom Gualdim Pais, provincial Master of the Temple in Portugal, and within its walls lived the early inhabitants of Tomar. The heart of the fortress, the Alcazaba, with the keep was built on the east; the mystical place, the octagonal Templar Church, was built the West. With the dissolution of the Order of persecution by Philip the Fair, King of France, the Templars found in Portugal, the continuity of its sacred mission of Cavalry.
