English: The American Fazl (sometimes spelled Fazal) Mosque located at 2141 Leroy Place, N.W., in the Sheridan-Kalorama neighborhood of Washington, D.C. Built as a private residence in 1912, the Colonial Revival-style building is designated as a contributing property to the Sheridan-Kalorama Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989. American Fazl Mosque served as headquarters of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community from 1950 until 1994 (now based in Silver Spring, Maryland). It was the first mosque established in Washington, D.C., opening seven years prior to the Islamic Center of Washington. |
