English: en:Asilidae (Robber fly) member, unknown specimen, adult, unknown gender. Shot near Bayonne, France. The image shows a female of the Asilinae family, Asilinae subfamily, Tolmerus genus, unidentified species. Unfortunately, not all species can be identified by photographs. Most species of this genus are difficult to identify and identification requires information about the male genitalia. Photographs from different points of view, a dorsal and lateral view help identification the most. However, frontal view, or even microscopepost-mortem examination may be required for an accurate binominal identification.
