Summary

Description A ninth century BC relief from Nimrud, now in the Pergamon Museum, Berlin. Original tag on exhibit reads "Palace relief, Nimrud, Alabaster, 883-859 BC. The lion hunt, a privilege of the king, is often represented on Neo-Assyrian reliefs. In this scene from the western wing of the Northwest Palace of Ashurnasirpal II, the king is depicted together with his charioteer. Several Assyrian kings possessed vivaries with lions for hunting."
