Description

Beeston's First Railway Station - 1840 . The first station at Beeston was built by the Midland Counties Railway Company to serve its newly constructed line between Nottingham and Derby . Physical work on the railway was in progress as early as September 1837 and the completed line was officially opened on Thursday , May 29th May , 1839 . In length the line was 19 miles , 3 chains and 17 yards - which being more familiarly put is nineteen miles and eighty-three yards .)

A very authoritative account of the The Midland Counties Railway is contained in a 1989 book titled The Midland Counties Railway by the Derby Railway History Research Group : ISBN 0 901461 11 3 . Persons more interested in a photographic record might wish to study the informative compilation by Mark Higginson of the Midland Railway Trust titled The Midland Counties Railway : 1839 - 1989  : A Pictorial Survey ISBN 1 872194 00 1 .
