[edit] Summary
One personal artistic interpretation of the flag flown by the ships of the major character Bosk, captain of Port Kar (a.k.a. Tarl Cabot of Bristol) in John Norman's "Gor" series of science fiction novels, based on the verbal descriptions contained in books 6, 8, and 11 of the series: A white field with vertical green bars, on which is placed a black head of a bosk (which is a heavy draft-animal somewhat analogous to an earth ox, with horns). The green symbolizes the "rence" marshes of the delta of the Vosk river, and the head symbolizes his assumed name "Bosk".
Image is my own work, based on modifications to public-domain image Image:Flag_of_Canton_of_Uri.svg .
I didn't notice it until well over two years after I had made this SVG and uploaded it to Commons, but in the 1974 DAW Books first edition of Hunters of Gor ISBN 087997-678-0 there's a somewhat different illustration of the flag by artist Jack Gaughan on page 40 of the book, also based on the verbal descriptions by Norman. It seems quite unlikely that Norman made any additional information available to the artist (beyond what is included the text of the book), or that Norman ever officially endorsed the Gaughan flag illustration as being correct, and my SVG file is independent of the Gaughan flag illustration.
For a simplified map of Gor showing the location of Port Kar and the Vosk river delta, see Image:Gor-map-simplified.svg .
For another Gor emblem, see Image:Gorean-collar-3-moons-emblem.svg .
