In der Nacht vom 30. auf den 31. Januar 1945 ermordete ein SS-Kommando 800 (nicht 8000!) Häftlinge des Zuchthauses Sonnenburg, darunter 91 Refraktäre aus Luxemburg (Als Refraktäre werden solche jungen Männer bezeichnet, die sich der Wehrpflicht entzogen, die Gauleiter Gustav Simon entgegen jeglicher Bestimmungen des Völkerrerechts am 30.August 1942 in Luxemburg eingeführt hatte. 3510 junge Luxemburger von 10200 Betroffenen stellten sich nicht oder entzogen sich dieser "Pflicht" durch Desertion.)
