This image could be re-created using vector graphics as an SVG file. This has several advantages; see Commons:Media for cleanup for more information. If an SVG form of this image is available, please upload it and afterwards replace this template with {{vector version available|new image name}}.

It is recommended to name the SVG file “Direct Abort Trajectory - Lunar Landing Symposium, MSC Jun66.svg”—then the template Vector version available (or Vva) does not need the new image name parameter.

Summary

Description
English: During the Trans-Lunar Coast phase of an Apollo lunar landing mission, the Direct Abort is identified as the primary emergency return mode unless the spacecraft has entered the proximity of the lunar sphere of influence (SOI), after which point the "delay to post-pericynthion abort" becomes primary. The Direct Abort can be accomplished with large burn to a time-critical return trajectory, or with a smaller burn to a fuel-critical return trajectory. See text at [1]
