Summary

Four Beauties
Title
Four Beauties
Description
Titled "随朝窈窕呈傾國之芳容", and with inscriptions naming the figures depicted, from left to right, as Ban Ji (班姫), Zhao Feiyan (趙飛燕), Wang Zhaojun (王昭君), and Lüzhu (緑珠). Also inscribed "Engraved and printed by the Ji family of Pingyang" 平陽姬徐家彫印. Pingyang 平陽 is modern Linfen in Shanxi, and was within the territory of the Jin 金 state (1115–1234), bordering with the Western Xia state to the north. Therefore this print is probably an example of Jin dynasty art rather than Western Xia (Tangut) art. See also Hermitage Museum XX-2519 Guan Yu.jpg which was also produced in Pingyang.
