2 types of mathematical gradient: Circular and linear one, both with arrows. The blue arrows direct from white to black.

Since arrows are commonly used for vectors instead of scalars, these pictures are more appropriate for divergences instead of gradients.

I made it as a replacement for Grad1.jpg with Inkscape.

Deutsch: Im linken Bild kann man sich die hintergründige Grauschattierung als Draufsicht auf einen geraden Kreiskegel vorstellen. Die vordergründigen blauen Pfeile geben die Steigung am jeweiligen Ort an.
Da Pfeile eigentlich vektorielle Größen symbolisieren, sind diese Bilder eher geeignet für die Darstellung von Divergenten statt Gradienten.
Im rechten Bild kann man sich einen Abhang vorstellen.
