MAES MAWR HOTEL. T-plan regional-cum-Renaissance house of c. 1660 or later. Close-studded lower storey. The upper storey and wide porch are jettied on three sides, detailed with a layer of timberwork and then square frames with decorative quadrants. Central lozenge shaped chimneys of Penstrowed stone. The East and north wings were added by W.Eden Nesfield in 1876, with stone stacks sympathetically replicating the main chimney. The hall on the 1.has a ceiling with beams stopped at the intersections and plaster in the nine compartments, with two dragon beams at corners.. The stair to the rear of the chimney has been reconstructed; bulky turned balusters. The parlour on the right is paneled, the chimneypiece a concoction of C16-17 pieces imported from Norwich. Early C17 carved timber panel to the rear of the chimney, depicting the Nativity, presumably also brought in?
