Local name: Pala Family: Sapotaceae Distribution: Common in scrubs of tropical India and China. Small trees latex milky, leaves coriaceous, broadly obovate, obtuse or emarginate, base cuneate, Flowers scented,6-7mm across, white, in axilary fascicles;Calyx lobes 6 glabrous, imbricate, corolla lobes 18, in 3 rows, tube short,stamens 6, staminodes short, glabrous, lanceolate bifid, staminodes sub petaloid,anthers extrorse; ovary 6 celled, hirsute, fruit an ellipsoid berry reddish-yellow,1cm long edible.

Wood red and very hard.
