Purpose of use

To show a unique view of Salyut 1 (of which very few photographs actually exist) also showing a docked Soyuz.

Replaceable?

The station was launched, operated and deorbited by the Soviet Union, with Russia retaining copyright to all images taken as part of the Soviet space programme. The station was de-orbited in 1971, and a new image depicting the station cannot be produced.
