Summary

Sponges found on top of the Western McMurdo Shelf, McMurdo Sound, Antarctica. Sponges are likely lifted off the sea floor after accumulating sufficient anchor ice, transported to the underside of the ice shelf, and with surface ablation are likely 'transported' through the ice shelf and 'deposited' on its surface. The ice at the location of the photograph is likely between 20 and 50m thick.
