Moses Wanyuki was born and still lives in Thika, about a half hour north of Nairobi, Kenya. He finished his studies of art at Kenyatta University in 1998.

Now in his mid-twenties Moses has had several exhibitions both in Kenya and abroad. His early paintings were very realistic, but he now concentrates on abstract impressions of the Maasai people.

Wanyuki has considered pursuing a career in teaching art, but knows he will always paint in his free time.

Wanyuki lays the paints on thick to create a textural effect. You can see by the way the light reflects off of the characters that there are multiple dimensions and layers to the paint itself. Wanyuki's paints with acrylics on a visually richly oil-washed paper background that are as much of the painting as the characters. His bright and textured Maasai characters contrast the background in an interesting manner, making them seemingly integrated in the land and sky-scape.
