Film journals and magazines combine discussion of individual films, genres and directors with in-depth considerations of the medium and the conditions of its production and reception. Their articles contrast with film reviewing in newspapers and magazines which principally serve as a consumer guide to movies.

  • Maarvon Israeli Magazine, since 2005. Maarvon is a part of Maayan, a magazine for poetry and ideas.
  • Filmjournalen, Swedish film magazine 1919-53.
  • Film, An Iranian Monthly magazine since 1983. There are various kind of articles in every issue from Iranian cinema to world cinema, from festival reports to serious theoretic parts. Some of the most celebrated Iranian film critics from different generations with different approaches write in this magazine. Also an English version of *Film called *Film International is published quarterly.
