Key vertical industries[edit]

While FishNet Security serves organizations of all sizes in nearly every industry, the company provides particular focus on these nine major sectors:[7]

History: 1996-present[edit]

Gary Fish founded the company in his Blue Springs, Missouri home as FishNet Consulting on June 15, 1996, to provide Kansas City-area businesses with protection against emerging Internet security threats.[8] In 1997, the company signed a contract with its first public sector customer, the Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI). That same year, Fish moved the company to an office suite in Overland Park, Kansas, and hired the local security consulting firm’s first employees.

In 1998, the company moved to an office located at 601 Walnut St. in downtown Kansas City, Missouri. The company also began to establish support agreements with IT and security equipment manufacturers and created a Network Operations Center to provide direct support to customers. In 1999, the company rebranded itself as FishNet Security Inc. and opened its first office outside of Kansas City – in St. Louis, Missouri.

In 2002, the company moved to a larger building at 1710 Walnut St. near downtown Kansas City, Missouri. The company also occupied 1709 Walnut St. and some floors at 1627 Main St., both near to the main headquarters building.

In March 2006, FishNet Security acquired SiegeWorks LLC, a California-based information security firm, to boost its presence in the Western United States.[9]

In July 2006, FishNet Security acquired Virginia-based True North Solutions to help it expand into the Mid-Atlantic and Midwestern regions of the United States.[10]

On March 17, 2008, Lake Capital, a Chicago-based private equity firm, invested in FishNet Security to provide additional capital and strategic resources for continued growth in the security industry.[11] Lake Capital focuses on investments in service-based enterprises across various industries.

In March 2009, FishNet Security acquired Tampa, Fla.-based Acuity Solutions to primarily help it expand into the Southeastern United States.[12]

In December 2011, FishNet Security acquired Atlanta-based Logic Trends Inc., a provider of identity and access management solutions.[13]

On April 16, 2012, the company moved to 6130 Sprint Parkway — a building on the Sprint Campus in Overland Park, Kansas.[14] The new headquarters features the largest corporate interactive touchscreen and the largest curved corporate video tile wall in the United States as part of its Executive Briefing Center.[15] The information security firm serves approximately 5,000 customers from nearly 30 office locations.

Corporate recognition and brand[edit]

In 2011, CRN magazine named FishNet Security the #1 security firm in North America.[16]

In 2013, Kansas City Business Journal named FishNet Security as one of the best places to work in Kansas City.[17]

Thought leadership[edit]

FishNet Security contributes to the thought leadership of the information security industry largely through a subsection of its website called 6Labs.[18] This section includes shared community information via blogs, white papers, events, research centers, speaking engagements, a resource library and a speakers bureau.

Partners[edit]

Although FishNet Security sells its own company-branded security solutions, it has forged partnerships with other industry firms to deliver a broader range of solutions. Here are some examples of the companies with which FishNet Security partners:
