[edit] History
- In 1979 Fitzgeralds opened as the Sundance Hotel (some sources say 1980).
- In 1987 it took on its current name
- In Dec 2001, Barden Nevada Gaming LLC acquired three Fitzgerald Properties[1]
- In 2003, the hotel was renovated and was a Holiday Inn for a while.
- In Dec 2003, the hotel was spun out as a privately owned asset of Barden Development Inc.[2]
- In May 2008, B. Spillman of the LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL noted that Don Barden was pledging his downtown Las Vegas property to generate a $35 million equity stake in a slots-only casino in Pittsburgh, making a sale likely for the Fremont Street hotel.[3]
- In Jul 2008, B. Spillman noted that Don Barden won't need to sell Fitzgeralds to maintain a stake in a slots-only casino in Pittsburgh, but the downtown Las Vegas casino remains an asset he could use to generate cash for his struggling gambling portfolio.[4]
- In Dec 2008, Analyst F. Martin asked "Could the recession deal a fatal blow to one or more downtown Las Vegas casinos?"[5] in the context of a possible Fitzgerald's sale.
[edit] Proximity to Star Trek: The Experience
Fitzgerald's is the closest casino to a planned relocated theme attraction, Star Trek: The Experience which was at the Las Vegas Hilton for ten years. Although initially the attraction had an anticipated opening date to correspond with the May 2009 opening of the new Star Trek (film), there has been no new press releases since that date. Fitzgerald's does not currently have any of STAR TREK Adaptive Gaming slot machines developed by WMS Industries. With these games a player can establish a unique user name and password to log into any game on this platform in any jurisdiction and the player’s game will start again where the player last ended the game. In addition, if the player completes all of the bonus rounds in the first episode of STAR TREK, the second episode is enabled for that player and when all of the bonus rounds in the second episode are completed, a third STAR TREK episode is enabled for that player. Also the casino does not have any of the WMS Sensory Immersion product category utilizing the BOSE 3Space audio system and gaming chair.
