Association football (soccer) in Western Australia is controlled by Football West. Perth Glory represents the state in the A-League. The first association football organisation was the Western Australian British Football Association, established in 1896. Football West was formed in 2004. That organisation is responsible for organising the West Australian domestic competition and junior teams within that state. Football West's premier competition is the Western Australia State League.

[edit] National Representation

In 1994, a group of businessmen led by Joe Claudio formed the Perth Kangaroos IFC. The club competed in the 1994 Singapore Premier League. The Kangaroos finished the league season undefeated and easily won the Singapore league title. However, with dwindling support and resources, the experiment proved to be a financial disaster and Perth Kangaroos IFC soon folded.

Perth Glory FC, who are not operated by the Football West, are the only West Australian team to compete in the current national A-League and also paricipated in the now defunct National Soccer League since 1996. Perth Glory also have an affiliated side in the W-League.
