[edit] History
The channel originally launched in 1989 as SportsChannel Ohio, an affiliate of SportsChannel America. It became Fox Sports Ohio in 1998.
[edit] Programming
Professional team partnerships with FS Ohio include the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, the NBA's Cleveland Cavaliers, MLB's Cincinnati Reds, and the AHL's Lake Erie Monsters. In college sports, FS Ohio also carries a select number of Xavier University,[1] and University of Cincinnati basketball games.[2] and 5 Dayton Flyers Men's Basketball Games beginning in 2010-11.[3] For 2011-12 FSOhio will broadcast 6 UD Flyer Games.
Fox Sports Ohio used to televise MAC Football Men's and Women's Basketball games, until the MAC signed a TV deal with SportsTime Ohio in 2010.
Prior to the Cleveland Indians starting SportsTime Ohio in the 2006 season, Cleveland Indians games were on FSN Ohio. Despite this move, Reds games remain blacked out, for the most part, in Northeast Ohio (the Indians' claimed territory), as well as national broadcasts of certain Indians games aired on cable channels (deferring to STO).
[edit] Feeds
There are actually two feeds of FS Ohio. One is based out of Cleveland, the other out of Cincinnati, and both cater to the sports scenes in their respective markets. The Cincinnati feed is referred to as "Fox Sports Cincinnati", usually in electronic program guides such as that of DirecTV; this is an unofficial label and is never used on the air. to Since the 2007 Ohio High School Athletic Association football season, both FS Ohio channels had a game of the week for their area, airing on Thursday nights.
With two FS Ohio channels, this can cause conflict for Columbus, which is between both Cleveland and Cincinnati. When two teams are playing at the same time (usual combinations being Columbus Blue Jackets and Cleveland Cavaliers, Blue Jackets and Cincinnati Reds, and Reds and Cavaliers), the Central Ohio-area cable systems usually assign one game to the actual FS Ohio channel, then assign the second game to an alternate channel on its cable lineup. (Time Warner Cable, for instance, usually has Blue Jackets games on the actual FS Ohio channel, found on channel 33. The Cavaliers are usually on channel 33, but in times of conflict with the Blue Jackets, they move to the customer service channel, found on channel 24.)

[edit] Branding
For most of Fox Sports Ohio's regular programming as well as national sports broadcasts, a small logo bug appears on the top right of the screen, reading FSOHIO (with the FS colored in light blue). During local sporting events, the logo changes to represent those teams. During Cleveland Cavaliers basketball games, the logo changes to FSCAVALIERS, with the FS in red. For Columbus Blue Jackets hockey games, the logo is FSBLUE JACKETS with the FS in dark blue. As for Cincinnati Reds baseball games, the logo displays FSREDS, also with the FS in red. These logos are also displayed during each team's Live pre-game and post-game shows.
