CKMP-FM, branded as AMP Radio, is a contemporary hit radio station, which airs at 90.3 FM in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The station plays mostly contemporary pop, rock, hip hop and some dance music.

CKMP is currently ranked #10 in the Calgary market according to the Fall 2011 PPM data report released by BBM Canada.

History

The station received approval by the CRTC in 2006 and began testing its signal on March 12, 2007 with music. The station formally launched on March 19, airing originally an adult album alternative format, and in the fall, a modern rock format branded as Fuel 90.3 with the callsign CFUL-FM.

On June 20, 2009, CFUL changed its format to contemporary hit radio and adopted its current callsign. The new brand name, AMP Radio, was inspired by KAMP-FM in Los Angeles, California, which adopted the same brand name in February 2009. The last song played on Fuel 90.3 was "Know Your Enemy" by Green Day, and the first song played by 90.3 AMP Radio was "Don't Stop The Music" by Rihanna. Like rival CIBK-FM (98-5 Virgin Radio), there is no rhythmic lean at the station, as both Virgin & Amp Radio sound very similar, with Amp Radio adding more new songs earlier over its Virgin Radio rival. Calgary is also the second-largest market in Canada with two English top 40 stations, the largest being in Toronto.

By September 2009, the station changed to the current CKMP-FM. CKMP was a former callsign of an unrelated radio station in Midland, Ontario which is known today as CICZ-FM.

CKMP-FM's launch marks it the first time Calgary has had two contemporary hit radio stations since 2003, when KISS 9-6-9 (CKIS-FM now CJAQ-FM) became variety hits 96-9 JACK FM.
