History [edit]

The school was founded in 1942 as the Fuzhou Municipal Lower Middle School (福州 市立 初级 中学 Fú-zhōu shì-lì chū-jí zhōng-xué). In 1950 it changed its name to Fuzhou No.1 Middle School. It merged with the privately run Huanghuagang, Zhongjian, and Fuhua Middle Schools in 1952; the newly merged entity was thenceforth called Fuzhou No.3 Middle School. Since the school no longer serves Middle School students, it has been renamed Fuzhou No. 3 High School. Fuzhou No. 3 High School now serves grades 10-12 only. Writing this in January 2013, the headmaster's name is Shao Dong Sheng.

In 1959 it was designated by the government as a "key provincial middle school". In 2002, the school was awarded the "provincial model high school in China" status.[1] That year, they also opened a branch school in Jinshan.[citation needed]
