Gautam Buddh Nagar (Hindi: गौतम बुद्ध नगर ज़िला, Urdu: گوتم بدھ نگر ضلع) aka GB Nagar, is a largely suburban district of Uttar Pradesh state in northern India,[2] part of National Capital Region (India). Since the collectorate, chief development office and judiciary offices have started functioning, the Greater Noida has now become its district administrative headquarter. It is one of the fastest growing parts of India, as of census 2011 registering 51.52% growth in the preceding decade.[3]

The Yamuna River separates the district from Haryana state and Delhi to the west. The district is bounded by Ghaziabad District to the north, Bulandshahr District to the east, and Aligarh District to the south. Noida–Greater Noida Expressway and another Yamuna Expressway passes through this district.
History [edit]
The district was created on 9 June 1997 by renaming Naveen Okhla and getting land out of rural areas of Bulandshahr and Ghaziabad districts.
It has a total area of 1442 km2. Because of its proximity to Delhi and better infrastructure facilities as compared to other districts in Uttar Pradesh, it is proving itself to be the favorite and most important investment destination for major companies and industries in India. At present, major industrial areas in the district are Noida, Greater Noida, Dadri and area along Yamuna Expressway.
The historical village Rampur Jagir/Jahangir where the great revolutionary Pandit Ram Prasad Bismil lived for some time in 1919 when he was hidden underground after Mainpuri conspiracy[4] also comes under its jurisdiction. Simply a park has been named after him by the U.P. government.[5] Mayawati played vital role in development of Gautam Buddh Nagar.

According to the 2011 census Gautam Buddh Nagar district has a population of 1,674,714,[6] roughly equal to the nation of Guinea-Bissau[7] or the US state of Idaho.[8] This gives it a ranking of 294th in India (out of a total of 640).[6] The district has a population density of 1,161 inhabitants per square kilometre (3,010 /sq mi).[6] Its population growth rate over the decade 2001-2011 was 39.32%.[6] Gautam Buddha Nagar has a sex ratio of 852 females for every 1000 males,[6] and a literacy rate of 82.2%.[6]
With a population of 11,05,290 in 2001 decennial census, the area has transformed into a fast growing suburb of Delhi. The population registered some 16,74,714 in census 2011.gujjar is the dominate community .there are 4 lac gujjars in gautam budh nagar constituaincy.[3] For the 2011 census, 82.20% of its population being recorded as literate. Female literacy, an area that has seen a remarkable jump across the state (up by nearly 13 points at 69.72%), in GB Nagar, it stands at 72.78%.[3]
Infrastructure [edit]
The importance of Gautam Buddh Nagar and its major industrial areas increases all the more because of its inclusion in the proposed Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor. The growth of industries in this district has been such that the not restricting to the earlier designated industrial area of Noida, further industrial lands/ areas are being developed in the district in the form of greater Noida, Dadri, Yamuna Express Highway from greater Noida to Agra, a 165 km highway. The ganga expressway of 30,000 crores.
