Gautam Buddh Technical University (GBTU) is a state university in Uttar Pradesh, India. It is one of the biggest universities in terms of number of affiliated colleges. Gautam Buddh Technical University was formed on 1 May 2010 from the bifurcation of the erstwhile Uttar Pradesh Technical University. The university is at the IET campus, and all but one government-owned engineering colleges in the state fall under its administration.As of 2013 this university has been merged into Uttar Pradesh Technical University.[1]

Gautam Buddh Technical University was formed when it was decided to split Uttar Pradesh Technical University in two parts to decrease the burden and to increase the quality of education in rapidly growing engineering colleges in Uttar Pradesh. Uttar Pradesh Technical University was established on 8 May 2000 to provide technical education. UPTU was established under University Act according to which technical education includes education in fields of Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Town Planning, Pharmacy, Applied Arts and Crafts.[2] After the split, two new universities were formed: Gautam Buddh Technical University and Mahamaya Technical University. But in 2013 as Samajwadi Party came into power this university was again formed by combining Gautam Buddha Technical University and Mahamaya Technical University on January 5, 2013.[1]

After the split, the new universities were given definite regions: The university affiliates the technical and management colleges lying in the Azamgarh, Allahabad, Kanpur, Gorakhpur, Jhansi, Devipatan, Faizabad, Bareilly, Lucknow, Varanasi, Chitrakoot, Basti and Vindhyachal divisions of Uttar Pradesh, beginning from the academic year 2010-11.[3] This includes all the government engineering colleges of the area.
Courses offered [edit]
The university offered undergraduate courses in engineering, architecture, hotel management and catering technology, fashion and apparel design, and pharmacy, leading to degrees of B.Tech, B.Arch, BHMCT, BFAD, and B.Pharma respectively. The university offered postgraduate courses in computer applications and business administration leading to degrees of MCA, MBA and MBA (Rural Development).
