Geir Rasmussen is one of the founders of the .name top-level domain and was the CEO of The Global Name Registry (GNR) until the company was acquired  by VeriSign on October 1, 2008. Previously Mr Rasmussen was a founder of the personal email provider Nameplanet.com acquired by Netidentity.com in 2002. Nameplanet.com is now part of Tucows following an acquisition in June 2006.
After ICANN revealed the New Top-Level Domain Name (gTLD) Applications on the 13th of June 2012 it became publicly known that Mr Rasmussen and Iain Roache had applied for 60 gTLDs through Famous Four Media Ltd
