George Stewart, 8th Earl of Galloway
Admiral George Stewart, 8th Earl of Galloway KT (24 March 1768 – 27 March 1834), styled Lord Garlies between 1773 and 1806, was a British naval commander and politician.

Galloway was the son of John Stewart, 7th Earl of Galloway, and Anne, daughter of Sir James Dashwood, 2nd Baronet.[1]
[edit] Military and political career
Galloway was an Admiral in the Royal Navy. Apart from his military career he sat as Member of Parliament for Saltash from 1790 to 1795,[2] for Cockermouth from 1805 to 1806[3] and for Haslemere[4] in 1806 and served as a Lord of the Admiralty. He was also was also Lord Lieutenant of Kirkcudbright from 1794 to 1807 and from 1820 to 1828 and of Wigtownshire from 1807 to 1828. In 1814 he was appointed a Knight of the Thistle.[5]

Lord Galloway married Lady Jane, daughter of Henry Paget, 1st Earl of Uxbridge, on 18 April 1797. Their daughter Lady Louisa (d.1889), married William Dunscombe, 2nd Baron Feversham on 18 December 1823. Lord Galloway died 27 March 1834, aged 66, and was succeeded by his eldest son, Randolph. Their younger son the Hon. Keith Stewart was an Admiral in the Royal Navy. [1] Lady Galloway died 30 June 1842.[6]
