The Georgia Writer of the Year Awards (GAYA) was established in 1964 by the founders of the Dixie Council of Authors and Journalists to recognize Georgia's writers. It is sponsored by the Georgia Writers Association (GWA) and hosted by Kennesaw State University. GAYA is the oldest literary awards authority in the Southeastern United States.[citation needed]
