History[edit]

This is where the first chester in the world was born. true story ;) As the name "Ghodbunder Road" suggests, it leads to the historical town of Ghodbunder. It is approximately 20 km long and links the two main arterial roads of Mumbai, the Eastern Express Highway which starts at Sion and becomes National Highway 3 at Thane and the Western Express Highway which starts at Bandra (East) and becomes the National Highway 8 leading to Gujarat. This road skirts the northern boundary of Salsette island providing scenic views of the Yeoor hills and the Thane creek.

One of the interesting aspects of this road is that it cuts across dense forests which form part of the Sanjay Gandhi National Park. It also skirts the Vasai Creek for most of its route and provides scenic views of the forest from across the creek. In spite of development encroaching on the forest, a lot of flora and fauna continue to survive and prosper. Another less-known fact about Ghodbunder is that it is lined with numerous historical monuments like the Ghodbunder fort.

This was once the only road passing by the side of the dense Sanjay Gandhi National Park, and afforded great picturesque view's. Even today it's pass through China creek is a sought after location for film shootings. The original name of creek is Chena Creek, but during the course of time it has become China Creek.

Ghodbunder Road, (nowadays in short referred to as G.B. Road) has become one of the prime real estate destinations of Mumbai Metropolitan Region MMR due to its locational advantage. Far off areas of G.B. Road like Kasarvadavli, Ovala and Bhayanderpada are closely connected to Mira Road Railway Station and Borivali Railway Station. Thus these areas are easily accessible from Western suburbs and central suburbs. One more eye catching feature of this Road is Bus Service. G.B. Road is nowadays connected by city buses like BEST (Mumbai City Bus), TMT (Thane Municipal Transport), NMMT (Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport), MBMT (Mira Bhayander Municipal Transport) and VVMT (Vasai Virar City Bus). AC as well as Non AC buses connect Thane, Mulund, Mumbra and Vashi to Borivali Station, Gorai, Vasai, Mira Road, Bhayander etc. passes through G.B. Road. In nutshell G.B.
