Giant African land snail may refer to two genera and three species within the family Achatinidae, a family of unusually large African terrestrial snails. They are commonly kept as pets in countries such as the UK. They can be housed in large tanks on a substrate of top soil. Their diet should be based on leafy greens, although many salad, vegetable and fruit items are also suitable. They should be handled carefully. Pairs or groups of snails will breed prolifically and eggs should be removed every three days, frozen for 48 hours and then disposed of.
