Gorō Miyazaki (宮崎 吾朗 Miyazaki Gorō, born January 21, 1967) is a Japanese film director of anime feature films like his internationally-known father Hayao Miyazaki. Described as "reluctant" to follow his father's career, for decades Gorō chose to work in landscaping rather than animation.[1]
After graduating from Shinshu University's School of Agriculture, he was employed as a construction consultant, in the planning and designing of parks and gardens. In 1998, Gorō was involved in the design of the Ghibli Museum in Mitaka and from 2001 to June 2005 served as its director.

[edit] Tales from Earthsea
Gorō's debut film was an adaptation of Ursula K. Le Guin's book series, Tales from Earthsea. Originally joining the animation project as a consultant, Gorō was asked to draw the storyboards. After viewing his storyboards, producer Toshio Suzuki decided Gorō should direct the film.
The move to direct the film caused trouble between Gorō and his father who felt his son did not have the experience to direct a film; the two were said not to have spoken throughout the movie's development.[2] Despite this, Goro was determined to complete the project.[3]
On June 28, 2006, Gorō held the first preview of the completed Tales from Earthsea, which was attended by his father. Hayao was seen to have "accepted Gorō" and after, delivered his son a message, saying the film "...was made honestly. It was good."[4]
The film received mixed reviews in the United States, with a Metacritic score of 47 and 42% of critics giving a positive review on Rottentomatoes, as of October 2011. Miyazaki was presented Japan's Bunshun Raspberry Award for "Worst Director", with Tales from Earthsea receiving the award for "Worst Movie", at the end of 2006.[5] However, the film was nominated in 2007 for the Japan Academy Prize for Animation of the Year (losing to The Girl Who Leapt Through Time)[6] and was selected in the Out of Competition section at the 63rd Venice Film Festival.[7]

Gorō's most recent film is an adaptation of the manga Kokurikozaka kara[8] with a script written by Hayao Miyazaki and Keiko Niwa (co-writer of Tales from Earthsea). Gorō was director of the film, the voice of the world history teacher character and wrote words to some of the songs used in the film. From Upon Poppy Hill was released on July 16, 2011 in Japan and debuted at third, placing in box offices behind Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 and Victini and the Black Hero: Zekrom and Victini and the White Hero: Reshiram.

On November 5th, 2011 Gorō announced that he is currently directing his third feature, he has confirmed that his father is currently developing the story and the film will possibly be released in 2013[9].
