Gray is a city in Jones County, Georgia, United States. The population was 2,084 at the 2010 census. The city is the county seat of Jones County[3].

Gray is part of the Macon Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Gray is located at 33°0′31″N 83°32′3″W / 33.00861°N 83.53417°W / 33.00861; -83.53417 (33.008620, -83.534067)[4].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.4 square miles (6.2 km2), of which, 2.4 square miles (6.2 km2) of it is land and 0.41% is water.

As of the census[1] of 2010, there were 2,084 people, 939 households, and 496 families residing in the city. The population density was 748.8 people per square mile (288.9/km²). There were 713 housing units at an average density of 294.8 per square mile (113.8/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 57.54% White, 40.20% African American, 0.17% Native American, 0.83% Asian, 0.61% from other races, and 0.66% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.94% of the population.

There were 939 households out of which 32.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.4% were married couples living together, 22.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 25.4% were non-families. 24.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.49 and the average family size was 2.91.

In the city the population was spread out with 23.6% under the age of 18, 8.1% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 23.2% from 45 to 64, and 16.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 91.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 83.2 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $38,000, and the median income for a family was $46,313. Males had a median income of $37,167 versus $26,563 for females. The per capita income for the city was $19,656. About 13.4% of families and 17.9% of the population were below the poverty line, including 21.2% of those under age 18 and 11.6% of those age 65 or over.

The Jones County School District holds grades pre-school to grade twelve, that consists of four elementary schools, two middle schools, and on high school.[5] The district has 295 full-time teachers and over 5,014 students.[6]
