Green Line (San Diego Trolley)
The Green Line is a light rail line operated by the San Diego Trolley, an operating division of the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System. The Green Line currently operates between Old Town in San Diego and the city of Santee.[1]
The line is one of three primary and five overall lines in the trolley system, the others include the regular service Blue and Orange lines and supplementary Silver and Special Event lines.
[edit] History
The Green Line is the third line in the San Diego Trolley system with service beginning in 2005 upon the completion of the Mission Valley East extension. The line operates along the Mission Valley East extension, as well as operating segments previously served by the Blue Line west of Mission San Diego and Orange Line east of Grossmont Transit Center. The San Diego State University (SDSU) stop is the system's first underground station. It is the only line in the Trolley system not to serve Downtown San Diego and is the only line currently able to use the Siemens S70 low-floor trolleys.[2]

[edit] Trolley Renewal Project
As part of the 2015 Operating Plan, MTS plans to extend the western portion of the Green Line south towards downtown, and terminating at the Imperial Transit Center's Bayside Terminal; in a route similar to the Special Event Service Line.[3][4] These newly acquired stations will need to undergo renovation in order to accommodate the new Siemens S70 models, although this will be done over a period of time to prevent the disruption of operation. The New LRVs are scheduled to begin operation on the Green Line in January 2012, although a few of these new trains have begun service as early as October 3, 2011.[5] Currently no stations on the Green Line are closed for these renovations.[6]
