Grey Blackwell
Grey Blackwell (born 1969) is an American artist who has worked in print illustration and web animation. Some of his previous illustration clients include MAD Magazine, Entertainment Weekly and Sport Illustrated for Kids. In 1998, Blackwell received the National Cartoonist Society Newspaper Illustration Award for his work with The News & Observer, a newspaper in Raleigh, NC. From September 2005 - October 2008, he produced a series of animated shorts for The News & Observer's web site (www.newsobserver.com). Blackwell has also produced animated cartoons on a freelance basis for Rivals.com and ESPN.com. In December 2005, he produced a three-minute animated short for the first annual "Southern Sports Awards," a TV show which aired on Fox Sports Network. In 2010, Bridgestone Multimedia Group began distributing an animated DVD entitled "Coach Tyranny: Sowing The Seeds of Victory" which features a character Blackwell co-created with former North Carolina State University football player Dallas Dickerson. A second DVD in the series, entitled "Coach Tyranny: Tough Love," released April 2011.
Blackwell is a 1992 graduate of North Carolina State University School of Design. He began his career in newspapers, first working for The Times in Gainesville, Georgia, and later for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution during their coverage of the 1996 Olympic games.
