Ground Sampling Distance

Ground Sampling Distance (GSD) is the physical measure of the level of detail of data collection for remote digital imaging of the surfaces of terrestrial objects of the Solar System, including the Earth.

The Ground Sampling Distance is the measure of the distance between two adjacent samples in an image. In some cases it is confused with resolution, a related measure. The GSD may vary dependent on the direction of sampling of the optical instrument, and the instrument geometry.
