Guadalupe MRT Station is a station on the Manila MRT Blue Line (MRT-3). The station is one of the many elevated stations that can be found on the line. It is located in Makati City and is named because of its location in Barangay Guadalupe Nuevo in Makati. The barangay (and its counterpart barangay, Guadalupe Viejo) is named after Our Lady of Guadalupe.

The station is the ninth station for trains headed to Taft Avenue and the fifth station for trains headed to North Avenue. It is the last MRT-3 station south of the Pasig River.

Guadalupe station is near two major seminaries: the San Carlos Seminary and the Our Lady of Guadalupe Minor Seminary, both of which are manned by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Manila. It is also near a shopping complex and public market (Guadalupe Shopping Center), which is connected to the station's concourse by an elevated walkway.

[edit] Transportation links

Passengers can board jeepneys, taxis, and buses to various points from the station, including eastern Makati City, Fort Bonifacio, Pasay, Mandaluyong, Makati City Hall, Pateros, and southern Manila. Auto rickshaws can be found in areas further away from EDSA that serve locally within Guadalupe. The Guadalupe MRT Station is the closest station for the Rockwell Center, which houses the upscale Power Plant Mall. The Guadalupe Pasig River Ferry Station is also located nearby.

[edit] Incidents

[edit] Catenary wire failure

On June 28, 2004, a catenary wire broke between Guadalupe and Boni stations, causing an MRT-3 train to stop between the two stations. Passengers panicked inside the train and a minor stampede was reported, although no one was hurt. The wire was believed to have broken due to a fluctuation in the MRT-3's power supply. Because of the incident, all MRT-3 services from Taft Avenue to Shaw Boulevard were temporarily suspended.[1]

[edit] Dead man in the stockroom

On February 2, 2009 a body of a 24-year old janitor was found in the stockroom of the Guadalupe MRT station. The janitor was last seen during 1:30 a.m, and was found dead by a co-worker around 3:50 a.m. No external injuries were found on the man, but as of press time, authorities are waiting for the autopsy report to determine the cause of death.[2]
